A few years ago, the very innovative clothing company People are People was rapidly gaining market share in the local street fashion industry. Their unique sense of style and retro-theme interiors made the shopping experience quite memorable. Floors were in terrazzo and walls in travertine which produced the perfect retro backdrop for the owners to showcase their vintage seating and chandelier collection.
Stepping inside one of their shops was like stepping back in time. Architect Toots Romero crafted a brand identity and was used in all the branches. Back then, shops used real stone, terrazzo and genuine vintage objects. Spaces where meant to last and convey a sense of permanence.
Now, alas, retail shops look more like grocery stores, with ubiquitous mass market finishes, utterly devoid of character. What a shame….
